So, it was off to Terre Haute this morning on an unexpected excursion to spend some time with Mark and Derp. Ferret food is not all that it is touted to be in the literature. I should have expected that because when we pulled into town, we picked up Mark at the Pi Kappa Alpha frat house and stopped at a place called New York Bagels for coffee. We didn't see a Starbucks on the entire 6-hour drive -- and Stacey was getting jittery, so I ordered the New York Bagel coffee of the day for her and Mark, hazelnut, and a strange conglomeration the establishment claimed to be a "mocha." The price: $6.66.
The food at ferret heaven was out, for sure. I knew a sign when one kicked me in the teeth. Then, like manna from heaven, a call came in on Stacey's cell phone. It was Terre Haute's native daughter returned to see her mother who was recovering from surgery, -d! And she was hungry!
So, we met up with -d for dinner. I, for one, was like, you know, a little disappointed. After this big build-up in her blog, she was wearing shoes! Well, there was an Autumn chill in the air. And we were at a place people throw up gum on the floor. So, I wasn't totally freaked out by the fact she was wearing shoes, I guess. When I think about it, though, I can't remember what kind of foot apparel she was wearing. It's like she wasn't wearing shoes at all.
It was weird. -d was actually sitting there in the booth across from me and Stace and right next to Mark. What was stranger still was that there is a real, three-dimensional, multi-faceted person named -d, who we kind of knew from her blog, but who turned out to be ... -d, but different. She was more caring, had greater depth of character, was more charming, intelligent, and witty, and was more of a friend than before -- it is difficult to put into words. Texture -- that is what the fabric of life added to the person we kind of knew from her blog.
-d, we had a wonder-filled and great time. Thanks.

That was so wonderful - I would love to meet up with my blogger readers in person one day. Its true, a friendship is formed through the wires, over the airwaves and into the computers in our homes but the friendship is given "texture" (so beautifully put Bill) when we meet in person.

Perfectly put, texture!
Thanks again!

I've only met two fellow bloggers in my area – quite briefly – but you describe the experience so well. We all live in a 3-D world!
Some of my long-distance blog-buddies have discussed this at length, that the blogging community is built by people who share common ground. These friendships aren't bound by geography, so the people I know from California, Vancouver, England, Austrailia, Jamaica and Iceland may never meet at one time ... but we're in this together. It's reassuring at times, empty at others. I need a hug.
