BP -- The Detergent Gasoline

I wash the clothes most of the time in our house. I'm pretty good at getting stains out -- since I'm so handy with knives, there is sometimes a lot of blood on pants and shirts, which is really pretty easy to clean, once you get the hang of it. Of course, I have gotten a lot of practice.

Ink is another problem altogether, especially when you've put the pen through the washer and the dryer. I think getting ink stains out depends on the fabric because on some items, it just doesn't come out. Or maybe it depends not so much on the fabric, but on to whom the clothing items belong. I rarely have any problem with mine; Stacey's are another story.

But I ran across a clothes-washing suggestion in Reuters, of all places. I admit that I have not tried this myself. Thought about it, but decided against it.

This guy apparently had a very stubborn stain and added a little detergent booster. No, not Oxy-clean. I'm thinking he should have done a pre-soak rather than add it right into the washer.

Gasoline is my husband's preferred agent of eradication. He has used it for everything from cleaning car parts to ant-killing to cleaning an old bathtub. It is always cause for a good old fashioned spousal discussion, and yet he keeps doing it. Go figure.

And you trust Bill to do the washing Stacey? Now the next time your clothes smell of gasoline instead of fabric softner, you will know Bill has been reading Reuters for more tips on stain removal.
