pizza, n. -- A baked pie of Italian origin consisting of a shallow breadlike crust covered with seasoned tomato sauce, cheese, and often other toppings, such as sausage or olives. -- Dictionary.com
I understand the concept of "white" pizza. And I'll grant dispensation to those allergic to tomato sauce who might get a pizza without sauce.
Donato's Pizza, which started in Columbus, Ohio, and was taken over by McDonald's, and was recently sold back to the original owner, advertises its low-carb Atkins pizza.
The fucking pizza has no crust.
That's not pizza. That's a plate of food all mixed together (and food separation on a plate is of utmost importance to me), not a pizza. I don't understand! Has the whole world gone mad?

how do they serve it? in a bowl?! you're right -- that ain't a pizza...
Posted by: P at February 10, 2004 08:44 PMit's just a bubbling bowl of cheese & meat. you need the crust to soak up the grease. what now? does it just pool on the top? oh god, i've just made myself sick. this just adds to my fascist atkins army contention. resistance is futile. they envision a future w/no bread. what's next, pb&j w/o bread?
Posted by: mike at February 11, 2004 09:26 AMno. the world has gone FAT. we sit on our asses and eat pizza too often. then when we are spreading like an oil spill and hammered with images of beautiful people that we have to be just like only without ever having to do a thing, we get desperate and begin eating things like pizza without the crust.
Posted by: the mighty jimbo at February 11, 2004 11:14 AMsounds like those stupid "burrito bowls" you can get at chipotle. it's a bowl of lettuce, rice, beans, and meat. i should start a restaurant called "low carb food place" and just serve bowls of ingredients.
"get it exactly how you like it!"
and i'll offer pizza bowls, burrito bowls, burger bowls, etc.
Posted by: tj at February 11, 2004 11:33 AMHah!! I had a healthy pizza tonight. My mum being diabetic is not allowed certain foodstuffs so my stepdad makes his own wholewheat pizza base and tops it with lots of veggies and bacon and other yummy stuff, smokes it in a weber bbq and then puts it under the grill for a short while. It is utterly delicious and certainly NOT fattening.
So yes..... the world has gone mad.
Posted by: Michelle at February 11, 2004 01:58 PMThe commercial world has its panties all bunched up trying to figure out how to cash in on the low-carb blip. Crustles pizza won't be around for long because if you just eat the ingredients in a bowl, you are nothing more than a pig at the trough. The big benefit of eating the topping-only from a regular pizza is that by leaing the crust behind, you are so very virtuous.
Posted by: Suzette at February 13, 2004 03:13 AMI really must start using that 'preview' feature.
Posted by: Suzette at February 13, 2004 03:14 AMI always thought that the crust -- if not the *best* part -- is at least half of the pizza experience. I've sought out pizzerias with the *best* crust. Keep me far from the madding crowd.
