THANK YOU, AMERICA!

bill and i have had this kind of snooty attitude about the reality tv shows. people would ask us if we watched [insert whatever show you want here], and we'd sniff and say "no - don't watch those shows. sniff. it's not like we don't watch a lot of tv. some people could act kind of snooty to us about that. some of our favorite tv shows (you know a bulleted list is coming, don't you?):

  • dr. phil. we try hard not to miss dr. phil. we love him. i told you to shut up about that. you just don't get it.
  • the sopranos. we loves the sopranos. this is a week-ender for us. a kind of ritual. we plan our last trip to starbucks (beforehand) and a small appetizer-like dinner (for during). it's like a trip down "memory lane" for me. my family had very slight (and some not-so slight) connections to the cleveland mob. i'm not saying anything else about this. part of the stacey "mystique."
  • any of the network news magazine shows. don't know why we like these so much.
  • cooking and home improvement shows. ok. so this is just my addiction. i am soooo provincial. sucks to be you that you're here reading my oh-so-provincial crap.

back to the theme of my post. reality tv shows. we watched a lot of "joe millionaire 2" so we could get back at all the europeans who look down their noses at americans by snickering and trashing the european bimbos. good times. and then we got sucked in by this season's "american idol." i have no response to the criticisms i've read about the lack of talent on this show, as i can't make the comparisons, not having watched "1" or "2." i think we got sucked in as we were channel surfing during the auditions. ohmygod, i thought. are they (the producers) making fun of retarded or mentally ill people? i'm still not sure how i feel about this. i can understand auditioning as a joke. but some of these people really believe they have some kind of talent. it's frightening. and not just a little sad.

if you've hung on this long, keep reading -- i'm almost there. my final observations (of course in bulleted form):

  • we looooove simon.
  • come on paula, nobody's that nice all the time.
  • bill and i are sooooo glad the red-haired kid got voted off last night. bill was jumping up and down and pacing around the room with his fingers crossed last night praying for john's release from the show. i think the judges are sorry they ever gave him the green light at the auditions. i don't think it was racism that got jennifer hudson booted off. i agree that it is/was kind of a popularity contest. i think even the people who imho "wasted" their votes on john got that point. there's no way in hell he should have stayed on over jennifer (if it's talent that you're judging.) i'm not sure what these people were voting FOR. all i know is i'm glad he's gone. i've had these horrible visions of him performing next week at what i think is an evening of "rage against the machine" stuff.
  • one last bullet on john. i know frank sinatra's stuff. i love frank sinatra's stuff. frank sinatra was not a one-trick pony. quit comparing john to frank sinatra. frank coulda kicked ass on the paula abdul gloria estefan night. you know i'm right.

I never miss the Sopranos.. EVER. About the rest I haven't seen American Idol or Survivor. Although with the media hype how can I not know of the controversy. The Apprentice is the only reality tv show that got me. Like you, I was channel surfing and got totally sucked in like a big dog.

I refuse to watch "those" reality shows, I do not want to be sucked in to watching them.

Argh I just heard on the news that StarBucks is raising their prices. I have to find some cheaper habits!

Seriously not trying to sound like a snob because I hate that, but we know we would be sucked into a lot of tv if we had a tv, so we are really glad we don't get a signal for tv here and have never attempted to get a dish (expense, and the tv addiction factor)... anyway, as I've said I hear a lot (way too much) about reality tv on the radio in the morning when taking Kel to the bus stop and get the whole play by play of Idol at that time and I looooove Simon, too! Especially that most people hate him. I'm evil that way. :)

On "the red headed guy": Little Missy was beside herself with giddiness when his ass was finally voted off last night.

On Starbucks: They currently have pissed me of ROYALLY as they took away my Mocha Malt Frappucino and replaced it with some Java Chip, another Vanilla, and a F****** Strawberry Frappucino.

Who the hell goes to Starbucks for STRAWBERRY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Oaky - he couldn't sing. But, he was so cute! I have a red-headed grandson, so maybe I am biased. Of course, Connor doesn't go around trying to sing like the Chairman.

We get the Sopranos here but I never got into it so I never watch it. My favourite shows are Alias, 24 and CSI and The Agency. The only reality shows I enjoy - The Amazing Race mainly as they go to various countries and it is nice to see that and Survivor which I don't get into too much because it has become more acting than anything else. There is an Australian Reality Show which I enjoyed called The Block which was about 4 couples who had to each renovate an apartment on a strict budget.
