MODERN MEDICINE

i’ve been avoiding medical checkups for a while, only seeing the doctor when i absolute HAVE to – ear infections, knee pain, etc. i put that "etc." in there for the sole purpose of making it SEEM like there have been other visits. there haven’t. bill has become increasingly impatient with me, KNOWING that i’ve ignored some stuff. so at the beginning of august, he took things into his own hands and made doctors' appointments for me. general checkup, orthopedic exam, and gynecological exam.

let’s see. so far i’ve been diagnosed with (i need bullets for this):

  • depression: meds prescribed
  • congenital defects in BOTH my knees: anti-inflammatory and pain meds (kathy howe knows what happened when i first took some of these – it wasn’t pretty) prescribed, surgery inevitable
  • huge-assed hernia or huge-assed tumor – we don’t know which yet: cat scan to determine which it is and then surgery: i loved how the doctor said that if it’s a hernia, most of my insides are outside the “tear.” love this so freaking much cuz two years ago when i saw the doctor after he did my gall bladder surgery, i told him i thought i had a hernia (AT THE INCISION). it was MUCH smaller. he said i didn’t exercise enough. fucker. i’m pretty sure he knows how pissed off i am about this.
  • uterine fibroid tumors: these aren’t a problem. no pain. just a little surprise.

    • i can’t fucking WAIT for the results of the mammogram, pap smear, and sonogram. that was sarcasm.

    P.S. bill read this as i was writing it and said: "you're not going to thank me for this???!!!" oh yeah. thanks. hrmph.

    kath: i DO owe them an explanation, don't i. but, you know, maybe it's payback for the way they've yelled at bill, huh? that's my story. i'm sticking to it.

    Somehow, it always seems to come as a surprise when you find out there's something really wrong with you- even when you knew things weren't right.

    Better to change out a bad tire before it blows and you crash the car, rather than riding around on progressively bald tires...even if it's messy, expensive, time-consuming and a pain in the ass. It's a lot less traumatic than a car crash.

    Damn, I do good analogies!

    Bill's a good man, Stacey- I'm so glad he just went ahead and did it. So, I'm sure, are you. Hugs to you both.

    I've got a 'little problem' too and I came back from my last check up with more medicines to take. My Doctor thought I was a lot younger than I am. Well done to Bill for insisting you got things checked!

    All kidding aside, hope you get better, kid.

    PS- I had an umbilical hernia (doesn't that open itself up for some smart-assed remarks!) and had the little belly-button surgery for it when they tied the old plumbing tubes so that Pattie didn't procreate a complete girls' softball team. Not too bad.
